Busted! Newspaper Thieves Caught Stealing From Local Driveways

Three newspaper thieves were caught on video stealing copies of The Conejo Guardian from private driveways in Newbury Park in May.

One pair of males is seen on video walking up to a driveway, apparently checking if homeowners are present, then stepping onto the driveway, picking up the copy of The Conejo Guardian and walking to the next driveway. The older of the pair is bald and bespectacled. He served as a sentry as the younger-looking man, who is taller with longer hair combed to the right side, stole the newspaper.

Do You Know These Men? As part of an organized newspaper-stealing ring, these individuals walk neighborhoods and take copies of The Conejo Guardian — and no other newspaper — from private driveways. See more on page 8, and help law enforcement identify them.

Separately, a red-haired, balding, bearded man who appears to be in his thirties walked from driveway to driveway, stepping onto private property, picking up a copy of the Guardian with a grabbing tool, then carrying multiple copies away. In the video, he wore one green sock and one pink sock under a pair of Birkenstocks, loose-fitting jeans and a white polo shirt.

Free speech opponents organize in the Conejo Valley to steal copies of The Conejo Guardian and harass delivery drivers. CVUSD superintendent Mark McLaughlin has “liked” posts that encourage people to remove copies of the Guardian from people’s private driveways.

Blatant Calls to Action Against Speech (Above): The Conejo Valley Antifascists Twitter account has been actively encouraging and calling for the theft and destruction of the Conejo Guardian from private property.

Both video-recorded incidents have been reported to the police, and the videos have been handed over to law enforcement. Once the thieves have been identified, charges will be pressed.

  1. Please STOP the unsolicited distribution of your papers at private residences. Set up a subscription service or stick with the online format. These people keep driving up my one lane private road and tossing their paper everywhere—we never asked for this! You’re just making more trash. STOP unsolicited distribution!

  2. This newspaper just started showing up on my property. Our family did not even sign up for this. I will report to the authorities if you continue to litter my lawn with this trash. I commend my neighbors for helping me clean up unwanted trash in my neighborhood.

  3. Thank you for the Guardian paper!
And by the way, The Acorn is in everyone’s driveway too. The Guardian is better!

  4. Please stop delivering to people who don’t want this paper. If people want it they can subscribe. Many residents find the paper offensive and dishonest. Why toss it on every driveway without the permission of each homeowner and then complain when they are thrown away by annoyed neighbors who want clean communities? Seems like you are just creating a problem and then pretending you are victims. If your paper has any value or truth, don’t you think people will seek it out on their own? The other paper only delivers to homes that subscribe and request it. Complaining about “newspaper thieves” when the paper is “free” and thrown on every driveway in town is silly and frankly quite embarrassing. If the community wanted to hear more of Amy Chen’s extremist views, we would have voted for her. And those that did vote for her and want to hear more from her have every right to subscribe to, read, and enjoy her newspaper. No need to toss them all over town when they are obviously not wanted by so many.

  5. Lol so obvious who the liberals are here. P.s. Go away! You are destroying my home town. Delivery of newspapers and mail and Girlscouts coming to your door isn’t tresspass you morons. It’s litter when you don’t pick it up off your driveway. Why are libers so dumb?

  6. How do you tell me your an intolerant hypocritical selective free speech liberal lunatic without telling me?
You do so by taking away other people’s right to read whatever the f*(k they want like this bloated nayer-do-well grandma sticking someone else’s newspapers. How very NAZI of you.

You don’t want to be on the Guardian’s circulation, call or email the office like a rational adult and ask to have your address removed just like others do from the Acorn. Don’t go around in stupid bunny suits and frolic in front of twitterdork followers woodchipping free speech like low IQ useful idiots.

  7. I love how some people always need to insult, label, and spread hate to make their points. Keep it up, it only makes the rational side’s points for them. 🙂

  8. FYI, “Bunnyman;” Contacting the Guardian and requesting they stop tossing their newspaper onto your property will get you nowhere. They do not honor those requests, no matter how many times one makes them. Nor will the Guardian respond to messages. On the other hand, not only can one contact the Acorn when one desires, they respond promptly and will cease delivery as requested. My experience with both.

  9. “Twitterdorkthenazibunny” clearly hasn’t met his peer group or is a mad projectionist himself.
“TL” is just making things up for the sake of argument.

Neither of these irrational, unAmerican censors are to be taken seriously. They lost the plot a long time ago.

    • Seriously, they will not take you off circulation because they do not offer that service. It’s just a general “go drop papers in this neighborhood” order to the paper boys. I’ve tried. My friends have tried. We’ve called. Emailed. BEGGED! They will not stop dropping the guardian trash at our house!

  10. There are flat out lies and libel in this “article.” There’s no journalistic integrity here because you’re not journalists. Just a bunch of people with an axe to grind against our public schools because you profit from home schooling. You would retract this article if you were Christians who worship The Lord and didn’t bear false witness against your neighbors. But in reality you only worship yourselves. That voice you’re hearing that tells you to do these things isn’t The Lord’s. It’s your own.
