Renewables can spark our recovery from the pandemic

Letter to the Editor

In follow up to the May 17 UK Guardian article “Coal industry will never recover after the coronavirus pandemic, say experts”, by Jonathon Watts and Jillian Ambrose. Sometimes opportunity comes when we least expect it. COVID-19 has exposed how unprepared we were to plan ahead – even when we have been forewarned time and time again by the experts, i.e. the entire scientific community. Thousands of lost lives and the near collapse of our economy could have been avoided with a minimal amount of planning. As we begin to recover…

Healthy People Shouldn’t Be Quarantined

Letter to the Editor

I agree with Rob McCoy that the shutdown of our economy and our freedom was a mistake from the very beginning. When people are quarantined they are sick. This is the first time that I’m aware of that healthy people have been quarantined. Newsom has caused the loss of millions of jobs, which also affects the dignity of those that are now unemployed and can’t provide for their families. Not to mention thousands of small businesses that will probably never recover. It’s hard enough to operate a small business in…

Hope is contagious

Letter to the Editor

I was touched to see a man at the head of the take-out pick up line last week pay for the lady’s meal behind her. She was dressed in a Von’s uniform and looked like she was picking up her supper after a days work helping people get what they need to hunker in as we stay safe at home. On social media I see friends collecting masks that folks might have around after a paint project for those in the medical field that need them. I have one friend…

Senate Impeachment Trial a Sham

Letter to the Editor

Letter to the Editor The Senate impeachment trial of Trump was an incredible embarrassment for our country. The only thing that was proven was that the current occupant of the oval office does indeed appear to be above the law. It also showed that Senate Republicans care more about politics than they care about the integrity of our elections. Truly shocking. The two articles of impeachment against Trump from the House of Representatives should have been a slam dunk. By not cooperating with the House investigation into his wrongdoing, Trump…

Prop 13 and the California Debt Machine

Letter to the Editor

The March 3, 2020 ballot in California is going to have Proposition 13, titled “Authorizes Bonds for Facility Repair, Construction, and Modernization at Public Preschools, K-12 Schools, Community Colleges, and Universities. Legislative Statute.” This is not to be confused with any other Prop 13 measure in previous years. This measure authorizes the state to borrow up to 15 billion dollars through the issuance of bonds, and is estimated to increase state costs at about 740 million dollars per year (including interest) over the next 35 years. The stated purpose for…

What Do You Really Know About 5G?

Letter to the Editor

In reading a recent letter to the editor of a local paper, I realized that it illustrated that much of the public’s misunderstanding about the level of danger posed by the proposed 5G service that brings with its “cell towers” (which actually are correctly identified as Wireless Transmission Facilities (WTFs), is based on confusion about the terminology. In that case, the letter writer attempted to deny any danger posed by “cell towers” because of his mistaken belief that there is a relationship between wattage and gigahertz, which is actually irrelevant…
