Candidates Speak: Secretary of State

Robert E. Bernosky, Businessman, votebernosky.com

California is a real mess; we have gone backward as a successful society. As I write this, we do not have enough water and electricity for homes and industry. Even residents with relatively high-paying jobs cannot afford to buy homes, and rents are too high. Criminals are let free, and the homeless dominate cities. Schools are very poor.

As Secretary of State, I will promote and make it easier for the people who want California to get back on track for them to have their voices heard and elect people who represent them. You can change California for the better for you and your kids by using your vote to get honest and realistic people into office. As someone with three adult children who cannot afford to buy homes here, as someone who is involved in the community, including schools, as a businessman trying to do business in California, I know exactly what the issues are and will help you to make California work for you. If you want to help clean up California, I want to hear from you.

The voter rolls and ballot counting process is a mess. Motor-voter registration, same-day registration, and mail-in voting have all created problems that lead to a loss of confidence in record keeping. Callers to the Secretary of State office often cannot reach a human and often are put on hold seemingly forever. It is increasingly difficult for candidates for office to manage compliance with complex rules but with limited assistance and tools from the Secretary of State. Business users experience similar issues.

I intend to treat the Secretary of State office as a business with customers that needs to deliver a high-quality product and achieve customer satisfaction. Eligible voter lists need to be continuously audited to avoid duplication, and we need to explore other options on how to validate signatures on ballots in a world where signatures have less utility than they previously had, but we need to count ballots quickly. The Secretary of State office needs to be available to callers who have questions.

We are in the 21st century, and we need a Secretary of State who can run a 21st-century entity by making information readily available. That is what I intend to do.

Current leadership has introduced new programs such as motor-voter registration, election day walk-up registration, and mail-in voting while simultaneously changing rules too close to an election for any entity to deliver a clean vote with certainty so that the people can have confidence that their vote was counted correctly and not drowned out by sloppiness or nefariousness.

Anyone other than the ultra-rich trying to live and thrive in California knows that current leadership is failing them. Having no water, electricity, criminal justice, schools and homes is self-explanatory.

I want California to work for you, your children and your businesses. I want to help make that happen by getting you and others involved to put an end to policies that make the elite feel good but give no hope of you or your children buying a home, cause businesses to close or leave, cause you to feel unsafe, and have educations more focused on being woke instead of reading, math, history, social studies and physical education. I want to clean up the mess. If you feel that your voice is not being heard, I want to hear you.
