Candidates Speak: 26th Congressional District

Matt Jacobs, Father and former federal prosecutor, mattjacobsforcongress.com

I’m not a career politician. I’m a Thousand Oaks native, married father of three young children and federal prosecutor who proudly served our country and worked tirelessly to keep our communities safe.

As a federal prosecutor, I took on the worst — al-Qaeda terrorists, child sex traffickers, fentanyl dealers — and never lost a trial. Now I’m running for Congress to get our country back on track.

We face many challenges today: record-high inflation, soaring cost of living, skyrocketing crime, border lawlessness, failing schools, and more.

The same career politicians who got us into this mess won’t get us out of it.

It’s time for a change. It’s time to elect a new leader with a successful track record of fighting for our nation — a commonsense problem-solver who believes in the greatness of this country and will work tirelessly to make life better for the people of our community.

I’m running for Congress to make sure that everyone in our community – and across the country – has the freedom and opportunity to make their American Dream a reality. Achieving this goal will require significant economic, public safety, and educational reforms, among others.

Economy: We must rein in the reckless government spending that has led to rampant inflation and soaring prices for gas, food and other necessities while reducing burdensome taxes and regulations that hurt job creators, small businesses and middle-class families.

Public Safety: We must reject the “Defund the Police” movement, reverse soft-on-crime policies that put the interests of criminals before the well-being of victims and law-abiding citizens, and steadfastly support the brave men and women of law enforcement who protect our community. We must also end the border lawlessness fueling our national fentanyl epidemic.

Education: For America to remain the land of opportunity, every child must have access to a world-class education. That requires empowering parents with education choice, re-prioritizing STEM, American history and civics instruction, and ensuring that schools teach children how to think, not what to think.

My opponent, Congresswoman Julia Brownley, is a 30-year career politician who votes 100 percent of the time with President Biden and Speaker Pelosi. She has repeatedly voted to raise taxes on the middle class. She supported the trillions in reckless government spending that caused 40-year-high inflation and soaring gas, food and rent prices. She voted to release violent offenders from prison, to defund the police and to eliminate legal protections for law enforcement officers. And she trapped countless vulnerable children in failing schools by opposing the bipartisan “Parent Empowerment Act.” For decades, Congresswoman Brownley has been on the wrong side of working families. It’s time for voters to fire 30-year career politician Julia Brownley.

As the grandson of a World War II veteran and two Holocaust survivors who came to this country as refugees, I have always been deeply proud and grateful to be an American. That pride and gratitude led me to pursue a career as a federal prosecutor. And the same commitment to community and country is what motivated me to run for this Congress.

I’m honored to be overwhelmingly endorsed by local law enforcement groups, small business owners and so many others in our community who want a better future. I’d be honored to earn your vote, too.
