Think you know what’s going on with your child at school? CVUSD is working hard to make sure you don’t.

Under the cover of “confidentiality and privacy and…the student’s safety,” CVUSD is forcing teachers and staff to keep information about a student’s sexuality and “gender identity” away from parents — and has an official internal document created for this purpose.

It reads: “In CVUSD, all students are valued. The purpose of this document is to create a shared understanding about how the student’s gender will be affirmed and supported at school. This document also acknowledges the importance of confidentiality and privacy and that the student’s safety is of primary concern.”

There is no place on the document for a parent’s signature, agreement or acknowledgment of what is happening. The document itself ends with the words: “A copy of this confidential School Success Plan will be stored in the following secure location on campus: ______”

According to one longtime CVUSD teacher, “When specifically asked if this can be done WITHOUT a parent’s knowledge, we were told that of course we would want to encourage the child to bring in their parents, but if they did not want a parent involved, this could be done WITHOUT a parent’s knowledge. Staff are calling students by different names and pronouns without a parent’s knowledge. It’s happening all over the place. If staff refuses … to teach the curriculum [and] show the SEL [Social Emotional Learning] lessons on this, they are being called in to meet with administrators.”

A number of observers say second-level CVUSD administrators such as Kenny Loo and Lisa Miller, along with board member Lauren Gill, are bent on forcing Ventura County schools to promote gender dysphoria, homosexuality and the grooming of children through early sexualization, no matter the cost. To that end, a Zoom presentation for Ventura County educators held in November 2021 counseled teachers and staff to avoid documenting discussions with students, which require parents to be informed.

“The document may become a pupil record. Parents would have a right to view it,” the presenting lawyers warned in their PowerPoint presentation, also linked at conejoguardian.org. “If student does not want parents to know, consider: Maintaining any documentation in personal possession[.] Having verbal conversations with other staff on a ‘need to know’ basis.”

The lawyers then instructed educators to “help student and staff understand where and to whom student is ‘out,’ to identify staff members student can go to for support. … Consider including: Student’s chosen name and preferred pronouns, and whether student wants everyone or only certain people to use these. Student’s preference regarding updating records … Which facilities will student use? What sports team will student play on?”

The presentation assured educators that a student’s preferences “May change as student’s gender identity evolves” and to “Ask student[s] if they wish for parents to be involved.” It continued, “Pupil record does not include informal notes related to a pupil compiled by school staff that remain in the sole possession of the maker and are not
accessible or revealed to anyone except a substitute. (See Ed. Code 49061.)”
