CVUSD Breaks With Parents, Vows to Push Child Sexualization in All K-12 Classrooms

The Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) board and superintendent Mark McLaughlin said in June that they will promote gender dysphoria, child sexualization and homosexuality in every K-12 classroom as necessary to create “inclusive learning environments” for kids. Board members led by Lauren Gill, along with McLaughlin, labeled any parent opposed to this approach as being full of “hatred” and “bigotry.”

“We’ve heard loud insistences that parents are to be consulted in advance before stories are shared about families that include trans kids,” Gill said at the packed CVUSD board meeting. “This intolerance is not okay, not with me. Thinly-veiled bigotry is bigotry nonetheless. … There is no parental right to inflict discrimination on children in our public schools.”

Their responses came in the wake of a Conejo Guardian article about Maple Elementary third-grade teacher Karen Briggs, who promoted gender dysphoria to her 9-year-old students without notifying parents or asking their permission. The story quickly went national. Liberals of TikTok picked it up, then legacy media outlets like CBS Los Angeles and the County-funded Thousand Oaks Acorn, which jumped on board only after an unknown perpetrator spray-painted “Pervs Work Here” on Maple’s external wall — giving the news outlets an “anti-hate” angle.

No news media seemed willing to report on the basic violation Briggs committed against children and parents — exposing 9-year-olds to sexually mature subject matter and a pro-gender confusion video, causing potential psychological harm to kids and their parents. In any other decade of American history, her actions would constitute a criminally-punishable offense.

Steve Schneider, who went by “Jim Monroe” in the Guardian’s initial article, is the father of a child in Briggs’ third-grade class and the source who came forward to disclose what had happened.

“The Conejo Valley is a wonderful place to raise a family, and I’ve gotten so much support from people in my neighborhood and throughout the whole city,” he says regarding community reaction to his stepping forward to call out Maple Elementary’s actions. “Parents are sick of being kept in the dark in regards to what is in the classroom. When it comes to our kids, we want to be part of the conversation.”

Schneider says he is “hearing stories of things all over this district that are outrageous.” At Maple specifically, “Parents agree that they should’ve been informed before playing the video,” he says.

Teacher Briggs, Superintendent McLaughlin, Maple Elementary principal Patty Lewis and the Maple Parent Faculty Association did not respond to requests for comment.

Parents Fight Back

The Conejo Valley is one of many national hotspots where parents are standing up against child sexualization in public schools. Fathers and mothers in places like Loudon County, Pa., Colorado and Fairfax, Va., are pushing back hard against school boards bent on actively promoting deviant sexualities, self-mutilation via “gender transition” surgeries, and so-called “gender identity” to young children, against the wishes of parents.

A recent Tucker Carlson program called “Transgressive: The Cult of Confusion” featured liberal author Abigail Shrier reporting that “The number of young people who regret their medical transitions is exploding in this country. [Two years ago,] there were 7,000 members of the Detransitioning Reddit group. That number is now up 400 percent. They were given no safeguards by the adults who were supposed to know better.”

In Colorado, a female student at Wellington Middle School was invited by an art teacher to attend an “art club,” which was actually a pro-gender dysphoria group approved by the school board, according to the Daily Mail. Kids were told they could keep the meeting a secret from their parents. (See related article on CVUSD hiding child sexualization from local parents via “Student Support Plans.”)

“When we picked her up from that program after school, we could see on her face that something was incredibly wrong,” the “horrified” mother told Fox News. “It wasn’t art club, it was GSA, or Gender and Sexuality [Alliance] is what they’re calling it now.”

At the “art club” meeting, a pro-homosexual activist told the kids that if they were not fully comfortable in their bodies, they were “transgender.”

“She then told the kids that parents aren’t safe and that it’s okay to lie to them about where they are in order to attend this meeting,” the mom reported.

The speaker gave students her personal contact information and encouraged them to contact her on social media platforms such as Discord and WhatsApp. The Poudre School District (PSD) confirmed the club’s existence and defended its practice of keeping conversations “confidential,” that is, hidden from parents. “In PSD, we promise to create and uphold equitable, inclusive, and rigorous educational opportunities, outcomes, and experiences for all students,” the district said in a statement to DailyMail.com.

The girl’s parents pulled her out of the school and enrolled her in a private school.

Reopening Schools — To Child Sexualization

Back in California, $15,000,000,000 of so-called federal COVID relief money has actually been spent to promote child sexualization and other left-wing causes such as Critical Race Theory in public schools.

According to multiple reports, the California Department of Education is using funds to train school staff in things like “anti-bias strategies,” “environmental literacy,” “ethnic studies,” and “LGBTQ+ cultural competency,” according to the State’s plan.  The U.S. Department of Education says the money helps schools to make a “culture shift” so they “reopen equitably for all students.”

In Fairfax County, Va., a school board mandated suspensions for students who engage in what gender dysphoria proponents call “malicious misgendering,” according to Fox News. The district defines this as “the act of labeling others with a gender that does not match their gender identity. Meaning if the student is going through a transition and you refer to them as their previous gender, then you’re in violation.”

The new rule, punishable down to the fourth-grade level, provoked local parents to say enough is enough. Parents also blasted sex-ed materials they described as “pornographic.” At a meeting, parents held up signs declaring, “Concerned parents are not terrorists.”

“Some of the things that kids are being told in school or even literature that they’re receiving in school, is, if you sold it on the street, or you had it on the street, you’d be criminalized for it,” parent Elizabeth McCauley told the Mail. “If you’re a conservative family or a Christian family, you have a right to be able to live in reality and … address someone who is obviously male as a male.”

Back in Ventura County, where school district leaders are pushing child sexualization and CRT in all schools down to the Kindergarten level, the Guardian was flooded with letters of support and concern from parents and community members shocked at what happened at Maple Elementary.

Schneider, who opened the door for public discussion by coming forward publicly, says he welcomes honest conversation with people who disagree with him.

“It’s great when people can actually have a sit-down and discuss their perspectives,” he says. “Parents, teachers and kids working together on sensitive issues will always be the best solution. … For me and most parents, we are involved in our children’s lives and just want to know what is being presented in the classroom.”

He believes that being involved and showing up at school board meetings is not only a right but a duty.

“If parents aren’t willing to speak out and share their stories, we won’t be able to keep the district accountable to the needs of the families,” he says.

  1. If you watched the Board meeting on June 14th specifically you can see that this article is based on facts that the Board is 100% in favor of not informing parents about gender confusing ideology and is insistent that they will do it over and over again. They stand behind reading Call Me Max to an classroom of 8 and 9 year olds. The book was written by a transman, has charming pictures and tells kids that they may be trapped in the wrong body. This board has gone to far. And while I feel for a child who has gender confusion, a real and very rare issue to some children, it is not okay to spread lies that their parents may be wrong that they are a boy or a girl. It’s unconscionable.

  2. Pharmaceutical companies need to get the kids early. By the time a kid is 18 or 21 he may feel fine just as he is, and feel no need to change his body. Each transgender kid is worth approximately $1.2 million to the pharmaceutical companies. Think-surgeries and a life time of drugs. Getting kids *early* is part of the pharmaceutical revenue model.

  3. The Conejo Guardian is right wing political trash with a side of QAnon. Your article site’s Tucker Carlson and you’re not joking which in itself is sort of hilarious. I don’t believe these schools are sexualizing anything but if I were a white supremacist bigot which the Conejo Valley is full of, I may go full speed with this type of nonsense while you still have this stacked federal court. Just as a suggestion, if you’re so concerned with the evils of public education; why not send your children to one of several indoctrinating Christian schools in the area? I’m sure they’d waive the tuition being the good Christians that they are, I mean WWJD? Right?

    • Idiot. You’re a solipsistic idiot Donald. Your grooming public schools are beholdeng to parents, not the dept. of Education that bank rolls their sick agenda. There are numerous progressive parents, who are not bigots in any way,but reject the sexualization of kids in lieu of an actual education. I mean look at you – a product of public education gone wrong.

  4. The actions of this board and administration are completely disrespecting and overriding the concerns and requests of parents in this community. The only parents being listened to are the LGBTQ1+ parents. No one is against parents doing what is best for their LGBTQ1+ children. They have that right and our community respects their rights. Unfortunately, the rights of parents of non-LGBTQ1+ children are not being given the same respect and consideration. The school board and administration have a duty to listen to ALL parents and make decisions that are inclusive of every student. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 guarantees that NO ONE is to be discriminated against based on race, color, religion, national origin or sex. This board and administration are violating the Civil rights of parents whose religious or moral beliefs are conservative and do not want sexual discussions and gender fluidity introduced to their children at school. Those parents have a right to receive advance notification of these discussions and have the choice to opt out and hold those discussions in their home, privately, with their children.

  5. I commend Steve Schneider. He’s been attacked and lied about. The bottom-line issue is parental involvement and respect for broadly held community values. Those in favor of radical positions MUST drown out voices of reason because their views are truly radical and unacceptable. Follow the money. It is true there has been investment in our schools in strengthening mechanisms to separate kids from parents, mute parents’ input and conflate safety, health, and government control.

  6. You have to love the comments from “Donald”. Typical response from the left, name calling & no specifics. This is child abuse. Full Stop. This isn’t a “Qanon” paper as our pal Donald suggests. There is nothing in this article that isn’t true. The left can’t argue any of their positions because they are all nonsensical. They will NEVER present data and have a civil conversation. They will name call & then bring up religion & call us all extremists. No one brought up anything about religion yet Donald was sure to bring it up because that’s what the left does. Gender ideology & CRT is their religion. They are religious zealots & now they are child abusers. We ALL need to speak out against this madness.

  7. The Conejo Guardian is a garbage, minor league local publication with a more than obvious tilt. Like most or perhaps all Christian oriented media, it is intended for the uneducated, uninformed, misguided, and unintelligent masses that make up the flock of the religion.

  8. Donald – the word is “cites” not “site’s” – please get an education before you start trying to comment on education!
