Seth Viso Eagle Scout Project: Scout Troop 711

On Saturday, August 29, Seth Viso’s friends, family, and fellow scouts gathered to paint the large restrooms at the new Hillcrest Christian School campus, former site of  Pinecrest Elementary School.

Viso, a Life Scout with Boy Scout Troop 711, is working on his Eagle Scout project. He is 16 years old and is a sophomore at Beacon Hill Classical Academy.

As a Life Scout, a candidate for the Eagle Scout rank must develop, plan, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to a religious institution, school, or a community group.

Viso reached out to the school to see if they had any projects that they needed to be done on the new campus.

“It took a lot of prep work, a whole day’s worth actually. We had to get the supplies, make sure the spaces were ready to prepare for painting, which included taping things up; but now we are finally into painting, which is pretty fun!” Viso said.

“It’s really fun to go on camping trips with the guys,” Viso said, reflecting on his years as a scout, but stating he felt challenged to accomplish the Eagle Scout rank, which is only earned by 4% of scouts.

“Both my older brothers did it before me, so I knew I must go all the way to finish,” Viso said.“Seth and his team did a great job. They showed up on time, finished on time, and cleaned up after themselves,” said Tony Hershman, Hillcrest Board President. “It is great to see our Boy Scouts take on, manage, and complete a great community service project.”
